Rushwood Summer Safety Tips

Category: Technology and Safety

Author: Steven Collette, Plant Operations Director

As summer heats up, we at The Rushwood Senior Living prioritize maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for our older adult residents. Rising temperatures present unique challenges, especially in our senior living community, where residents are more vulnerable to heat-related issues. Our maintenance team follows some essential safety measures to ensure a safe, smooth-running, and pleasant summer for everyone.

We inspect air conditioning units regularly to ensure they function correctly and replace air filters to maintain air quality. Thermostats are set at comfortable temperatures, and cooling is monitored in common areas and resident rooms.

Team’s Maintenance and Safety Measures

  • Provide shaded seating in outdoor areas
  • Inspect and repair walkways to prevent trips
  • Increase pest control to keep areas free from insects
  • Check ventilation in common areas and kitchens
  • Inspect electrical systems to prevent overloads
  • Clean roofs and gutters to avoid leaks and water damage

We educate residents on staying hydrated and avoiding peak heat hours by distributing flyers and holding meetings. We also promote indoor activities during extreme heat to keep residents engaged and safe.

In our community, we ensure hydration stations are available at all outdoor resident events and actively encourage employees to recognize the symptoms of overheating. Staying hydrated and taking regular breaks when working or spending time outdoors is a valuable summer safety tip for all Arrow communities. Promoting summer safety can drive and support occupancy in our community by demonstrating our commitment to the well-being of our residents and employees.

Following these tips ensures The Rushwood Senior Living remains safe, comfortable, and enjoyable for all residents and staff throughout the summer months. Our dedication to maintaining a secure environment is essential to everyone’s well-being.
