Refreshing the Community

As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.

After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at The Rushwood Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

Timing Seasonal Work

For the spring refresh, we work closely with our landscaper to schedule plantings and irrigation maintenance at the right time. Spring weather in our area can be extremely unpredictable. Proper timing helps prevent rework and avoids unnecessary damage to plants and equipment.

A recent seasonal project involved a zone-by-zone spring irrigation assessment. We identified needed repairs and adjustments, then submitted a bid for approval. Once approved, we can move forward with the work.

This process will help ensure the system runs at optimal performance as we approach the drier months. Green grass and healthy plants create a strong first impression.

Tracking Daily Needs

During my daily rounds, I keep a running list of items that need attention. I discuss these items with other department heads during meetings. I also stay in regular communication with our landscaper to make sure concerns are addressed.

The most common spring startup issues include dead plants that did not survive the winter and irrigation repairs from limited fall preparation.

Moving forward, I plan to monitor the winter preparation process more closely. This will help reduce springtime surprises and support a smoother transition into the next season.

It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure The Rushwood Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
